Anastasia McAteer, LPC, LMFT, C-IAYT

Hi there! First of all, thanks for I first went to therapy in high school to work through my own trauma, grief, and depression. The experience made me realize how much I love helping people, so I figured I would become a teacher. However, acing my first college psychology course set me on a new path. I was then introduced to the power of therapeutic yoga while experiencing another period of depression. This experience opened me to the healing powers of reconnecting the mind and body since, in American culture, these “parts” of ourselves are often treated separately.

My first job after undergrad at a residential treatment center for teens led me to the Austin Children’s Shelter... and straight into burnout. As a way to reset, I started nannying and practicing yoga seriously. My journey to connect the mind and body led to trauma-informed yoga teacher training, a graduate degree in counseling, and yoga therapy certification. Throughout it all, I used my own restorative practices to help restore balance and connection within myself.

My professional path has led me through many experiences – intensive outpatient programs for substance abuse, working with disadvantaged youth, case manager for those who are HIV+, working with children with autism, and now private practice. Through it all, Anastasia built up her own methodologies founded on the fact that the body remembers our trauma... and that it can also help us overcome trauma.
